I like it as well. Where does the money go? If to the U.S. Treasury it would be an amount such that the deficit spending would be dramatically reduced, eh? Here's the conundrum, how do we get such a law passed without going through the politicians? Not sure where you come up with this stuff, but hope you keep it coming. By the way, do you actually have any specific information about the example you cited. I would love to do a little research on that legal case and write about it. Wonder if the plaintiff appealed the dismissal or just simply let it go.

What a fantastic idea. I have often said, why doesn't obama simply send every American a check instead of racking the credit card well over any reasonable limit of spending. Amazing how the U.S. Government has a counsel on Financial Literacy on one hand (one side of the mouth) yet on the other hand, it sets the poorest example of non-financial literacy or responsibility. You might get a chuckle out that post. If you ever have some spare time take a look at it to fully appreciate the hypocrisy. Here's the link for the December 2008 post. http://ballounpost.com/2008/12/01/us-taxpayer’s-money-teaching-financial-literacy/

By the way, Mike's suggestion should have been forward to every member of Congress!

Thanks again for your insightful comment Don.

This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday.
The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I thought this was the BEST idea. I think this guy nailed it!

I think we could just substitute Mr Prime Minister for Mr President and check the Canadian numbers.Mike

Dear Mr.President,
Patriotic retirement:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force;
pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations:
1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.
All this and it's still cheaper than the "bailout".

In Canada we had an occasion where a man requested a candidate to swear on his honour in front of the crowd that he would do a specific thing when he was elected.
The Candidate went ahead and with hand raised swore on his honour and to God that he would do that thing.
Of course after he was elected he did not perform, and refused to when the man challenged him.
So the guy took the now elected member of Government (Provincial level) to court, suing him for Breach of Promise.
The Judge threw it out of court. He told the man he was an idiot for expecting a candidate to follow through on campaign promises because it was common knowledge and an accepted fact that politicians never kept their words.
Maybe the same thing in the US?
I agree with the writer about holding elected officials to their word and accountable for what they say.
How about this: If you can prove an "appointed" government official told a lie while speaking to the public, they receive a fine. Start at $5000.00 and work up for every lie told. Get to a certain point and he is fired.
If an elected member of the Government can be proven to have told a lie in a speech to the public he is fined. The first time. Must resign the second.
If he is caught lying during the performance of his office, he goes to jail.
I like it.
